Basic Pancake Recipe

Pancakes are a great satisfying start to the day, they are a great base to add any flavours you like, in moderation try different combinations yourself and see what you like.

Ingredients: Serves two

  • 100g plain flour
  • 100ml milk
  • 100ml water
  • 1 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Pinch of ground sea salt


Mix the milk, water and egg together, pour into the flour and salt, whisk until you have a smooth batter.

Heat a lightly oiled large frying pan for a minute, add just under a ladleful of batter to the pan and immediately start swirling it round the pan to get a nice even layer.

Cook the pancake for approximately 30-40 seconds. Use a palette knife to lift the pancake carefully to look at the underside to check it is golden-brown before turning over. Cook the other side for approx 30-40 seconds and transfer to a serving plate.

Serve straight away with the filling wrapped inside.

Pancakes are great for adding lots of different ingredients to – here are a few suggestions, but have an experiment with different combinations of ingredients yourself and see what you like.

Make smaller Scotch pancakes with a slightly thicker mixture by using a little less water.
